Skype now has 3G and Wi-Fi video calling for iOS

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r7-rC6TVcpQ Skype is now apparently now even more useful for annoying your friends and looking like a total idiot. (See video) I can't tell you how many times TechVirtuoso's own Franky Frank Owen has wanted to dance in his underwear on his bed for me while I was in the shower, but our iPhone to Android incompatibility prohibited our special moment. While Facetime over Wifi is Apple's native and kosher way to do video calling on your iPhone (4 only), they've opened the flood gates to now allow video calling through Skype over AT&T's super fast and stable 3G network. Devices that lack cameras, such as the iPad and the older iPod Touch can still get in on the video fun, but only on the receiving end. But sometimes, isn't its more fun to receive. Get the update (version 3.0) in iTunes or on the App Store of your mobile device.

Using LastPass and YubiKey to secure your online life

If the recent Gawker password breach (re)taught us anything, it's the old and valued lesson of "don't use the same password everywhere" -- but as often as I repeat that phrase and cringe a little bit when I find out someone else did it, I've been just as guilty of this cardinal sin of network security myself... from time to time. It's hard not to. When you're as active on the Internet as I am, it's impossible to resist the urge to duplicate passwords, especially if you're against writing them down. So you're left to memorize them all, hope you don't forget, and hope that you can later rely on the splendid password reset via email later on. All of the Gawker fun also taught (or should have taught) website administrators like myself to take better care of their users. Gawker fouled up in a huge way (beyond simply exposing user data) by not taking proper steps to secure the information in their database once it was exposed. Gawker used an easily crackable cipher system (DES) which was depreciated by a new industry standard (AES) long ago.

WordPress 3.0.4 released, corrects critical security issue

Media_httptechvirtuos_vjzff
WordPress has released version 3.0.4 of their blogging engine, addressing a core security bug in their HTML sanitation library, called KSES. The fix is considered critical by the WordPress team, and the most important security update to the code that has been made in 2010. Site owners should update ASAP. The update should appear in the dashboard of WordPress control panel, or can be downloaded from WordPress.org. The flaw was discovered by security reseachers Mauro Gentile and Jon Cave (duck_). Rest assured TechVirtuoso's WordPress install is up-to-date.
